The change

In 1974 Guido Fidora, decided to convert the family estate into organic agriculture.

At that time being organic was not a fashion and the word “organic” itself was not even associated to agriculture as it is today. Chemicals had been promoted as the right innovative way to grow crops for about one century. Everybody just seemed to have forgotten all their past, thousand-year chemicals-free experience. There were no books, no researches, no teachers to tell you how to grow plants without using chemicals. We learned through experience.

Today, Civranetta estate is one of the oldest examples of organic-cultivated environment in our country and the oldest one in Veneto region. The flourishing plants and the numerous animal species witness how a different agricultural method can improve our life conditions and change the world as we know it.

Biodiversity

Biodiversity is the most important resource to help the vines developing their natural defenses.

We encourage the development and coexistence of different species of plants and animals within the same habitat. In order to do this, we use tree-lined banks, meadows, hedges, copses, and ponds: biotopes that characterise the farm and become a welcome home to wildlife. This is why hares, foxes, pheasants, ducks, herons, boars and many other species are the true inhabitants of our estates.

Being organic

To us, being organic doesn’t only mean going back to some “good old principles”, it means moving a step forward in terms of quality, health, sustainability and environmental responsibility.

For this reason, we consider matching the latest technology in this sector together with the experience inherited by the older generations as fundamental.

All of our vineyards are cultivated according to two general concepts: the avoidance of chemicals and the development of biodiversity.

Our approach

Avoiding chemicals and enhancing biodiversity is not enough.

There’s no way to handle diseases or invasive insects but preventing them. Prevention makes the vintner closer to the vines, as he looks after them every day.

By nourishing the land and treating it with respect, it will give us its finest fruits. Commitment, perseverance, experience; this makes our grapes special even before they get to the cellar.

We are at our fourth generation in wine production and we didn’t just commit to this philosophy at a certain point of our life, we were born and brought up with it.

No chemicals

Agrochemicals like pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers have a dramatic impact on environment.

They kill both invasive and good species of plants and animals, they infiltrate the soil and get drained by the plants, they pollute the water and the air, we breathe them, we drink them, we eat them. Chemicals can cause soil desertification and the loss of biodiversity. They spoil the plantations, by reducing their natural enemies and resources.

Forget about all this, when you are in our vineyards. Synthetic substances are replaced by natural products of organic origin only, and the same philosophy is followed in the cellar as well.

Organic wine

In our opinion, wine is made to be enjoyed and to convey emotions.

We want all of our wines to taste excellent, to be the best companions to a special occasion, as well as to make a normal occasion special. Why? The wines we remember are about the moments. The people, the places.

Organic wines are healthier than those made from conventionally grown grapes. They are made with more care, following practices that protect both the environment and the people, who work in the production process.

Our wines reflect the unique features of native grape varieties, local geology and climate. In a word, our terroir.
